Pictorial Explosion

Painting itself has already been threatened with extinction various times in the history of contemporary art. This is unfair, when one considers that it is one of the most innovative of media. Even in the case of conventional paintings on canvas, there are innumerable tendencies and directions that have been taken up in recent years, alongside the evolution of other media, such as photography.

In terms of the evolution of painting, there is Katharina Grosse's Pictorial Explosion, which is in itself one of the greatest experiments in contemporary painting. For around 15 years, the artist has been expanding her field beyond the conventional support.

She has been developing site-specific pieces dealing with pictorial themes, such as color composition, occupation of space, volume and the combination of light and dark, in addition to an inexhaustible palette of colors. For the Curitiba International Biennial Grosse has produced a new work that explores the vitality of her expansive strokes, the unique combinations of color and form, contained in locally-sourced materials, thereby setting up a dialogue between her artistic practice and the "Brazilianness" of her point of view.

This explosion, which starts out from the ductus of the painting, emanating through the striking, vibrant colors, invades the Fiep System Cultural Center with a singular but ephemeral experience, sticking in the mind of the viewers, despite its temporary, spontaneous and reductionist nature.


Explosão Pictórica

A pintura em si já foi ameaçada de morte inúmeras vezes no percurso da história da arte contemporânea. O que é injusto, considerando que se trata de um dos meios artísticos mais inovadores. Mesmo se falarmos de pintura convencional sobre tela, há incansáveis tendências e caminhos traçados nos últimos anos, em paralelo à evolução de outros meios, como a fotografia. Fazendo jus à evolução pictórica, tem-se a obra de Katharina Grosse, que representa em si um dos maiores experimentos na pintura contemporânea. Há aproximadamente 15 anos, a artista vem expandindo seu campo de atuação para além do suporte convencional. Desenvolve obras site-specific, lidando com temas pictóricos, como composição de cores, ocupação espacial, volume e contraposição entre claros e escuros, além de uma palheta de cores incansável. Para a Bienal Internacional de Curitiba a artista executa uma obra nova, explorando a vitalidade de seu traço expansivo, as cores e formas em combinações únicas, inseridas em materiais do contexto local, formando, assim, um diálogo entre sua prática artística e a "brasilidade" de seu ponto de vista.

Essa explosão, que parte do ductus da pintura, emanado através de cores impactantes e vibrantes, invade a galeria do Centro Cultural Sistema Fiep em uma experiência única e efêmera, permanecendo na mente dos espectadores independentemente de sua temporariedade, espontaneidade e redução de elementos.
